Extensions : More Power Through Balance: The Load Balancer for JobRouter®

Did you know that you are also allowed to run JobRouter® with a load balancer? There is a separate licensing option for this, which you can read about here. This is especially interesting for companies with high data traffic volumes.

Modern applications must process an unmanageable number of sessions simultaneously and provide every user with the right content quickly and reliably, such as text, videos, images, and other data. To reduce performance issues and ensure application sessions, data can be redundantly stored across different resource servers. In this way, the load balancer acts as a traffic proxy and selectively routes traffic from applications and the network to different endpoints.

Integrating a Load Balancer into a JobRouter® Environment

A load-balanced system requires at least two web servers with a load balancer placed in front of them. The JobRouter web application is installed on both web servers, while centrally used directories, such as the uploads directory, are moved to a file server so they are available from every web server. This file server should also be set up with fail-safe protection.

In addition to files, JobRouter® stores all process data in the database. Therefore, the database server must also be designed for fail-safe operation.

Any number of web servers can be installed.

When a user accesses JobRouter® via the load balancer’s address, they are automatically forwarded to one of the web servers. The JobRouter® web application installed on that web server processes the user’s request and establishes a connection to the central database. There, it finds the paths to the central directories and can then access all central files in addition to the local files on the web server.

Advantages of Load Balancing:

Load Balancer Setup in the JobRouter® Environment
  • Dynamic distribution of network traffic across multiple servers
  • Combination of local resources and cloud resources
  • Support for application reliability
  • Improved overall application performance

Could load balancing also be an option for your company? We would be happy to find out together with you.
