Fritz-Jochen Weber, CEO of JobRouter AG, talks about the high-performance workflow management system JobRouter® and the dynamic growth of JobRouter AG.
Mr. Weber, you started in 1994 as a service provider on the document management market. You did advise companies and implemented the common software solutions at that time. What was your personal motivation to develop your own software and to take the risks involved?
Oh, you know, we were quite successful as a system house on the market. And yet we had more and more often the unsatisfactory feeling of not being able to offer the customers what they actually need. At first, we thought this limitation is probably because of the compilation of our software portfolio. Therefore, we searched the market meticulously for intelligent workflow management software that meets our expectations. Unfortunately, or better, thank God, the market research did not provide the desired results. Thereafter making the decision to become active as a software producer with JobRouter® was relatively easy for us.
What should this software necessarily do better than the well-known market competitors?
Workflow management can only work if the individual components of the heterogeneous IT landscape are integrated into the concept and the workflow management system can access and process the data and documents of the programs. Therefore JobRouter® is much more than common workflow management software. The goal of the development was programming a powerful enterprise application framework that is easy to setup and easy to apply. The resulting ease of use and the user acceptance are more important elements of our success. Not only the product but also the company itself makes the subtle distinction.
Now, I am curious. What do you do differently?
For the JobRouter® team a familiar, respectful and trusting interaction with each other is a common understanding. At the Mannheim site, 44 people spend a considerable time of the day together. We know each other and are interested in each other. We do not want to miss this anymore. Practicing fairness and openness are our top priority. Our partner management is a good example of the implementation of these values. Meanwhile, more than 80 partners represent the workflow management system JobRouter®. It is also clear that we pay close attention to choose the right and suitable partners for us. But also for our distribution partners the business model has to work out. Compared to the market JobRouter® distribution partners are participated in generated royalties above average. Our partners should be able to live properly from their input of daily work. I know everything else too well from my time as a consultant and that makes no sense to me.
What is your personal highlight, when you think about the workflow management system JobRouter®?
The most fascinating for me is the simple and intuitive work with our system. JobRouter® is not overwhelming anyone - but is always ready to show upon request, and provide its functions: A powerful, high-performance and scalable development and execution environment with intuitive monitoring function for business processes. Our customers can almost playful model, adapt and check processes - of course in real time. And that leaves you wanting more. Once begun, they discover a variety of processes and workflows that were not ready yet or can be designed much more efficient by the use of JobRouter® workflow management system.
In practice: Which benefit does companies have using the JobRouter® software?
They changed their way of working and do not work as always, they check and optimize the internal processes and workflows. Thereby the business processes are much more efficient. In controlled processes it is possible to respond quickly and appropriately to internal and external changes. In an increasingly dynamic market environment this property is essential. You certainly know the saying: The money is in the process! I think, much more than that.
Let us dare to look into the future. What are the next strategic goals you want to achieve?
Clearly one goal is to advance the internationalization of our business model. We started in 2014 to implement this strategy with the opening of a subsidiary in Istanbul, Morocco and Warsaw. Through a successful distributor JobRouter® is also present in the United States. In the medium term, the workflow management system JobRouter® will be present in all markets which are interesting for us. But one thing is also clear: First of all, internationalization means significant investments in new markets.
We can and want to bear the costs for two reasons: Of course we are convinced of the performance and the associated competitiveness of our product and we are sure that we are able to operate economically successful in these new markets.
The second aspect is not to assess directly in monetary values, but at least as valuable: We keep chasing our dreams with this step. Nothing is as contagious as optimism. The whole team is excited about the next stages of the journey "internationalization" and is highly motivated - almost enthusiastically. Everyone is doing its part to make the product even better and set for the journey to new horizons. As a passionate sailor I can describe the current status as follows: We have an excellent boat, a fantastic crew and are immediately before a long journey. What could be better?

Fritz-Jochen Weber, born in Karlsruhe, has worked in the IT industry for 35 years. The focus of his professional activity is the development of PC operating systems, ERP systems and the workflow management system JobRouter®.
The graduated electrical engineer began his career in the 90s with the foundation of an IT system house, which dealt with the sale and implementation of document management systems. In 2003 he launched his self-developed workflow management system JobRouter®. Due to the fast-growing success of this new system, Weber and his team decided to transform the IT system house into the software producer JobRouter AG.
Mr. Weber is responsible as CEO and later management board of JobRouter AG for the successful development of the company into a global group of companies. Currently, Fritz-Jochen Weber, as the CEO of JobRouter AG, is responsible for the processing of strategic customers and markets, as well as for the expansion of the international partner network. In addition, Mr. Weber is engaged in the education of young professionals in the field of information and communication technology as a lecturer at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg for decades.
Fritz-Jochen Weber lives in Mannheim, is married for 35 years and has three adult daughters.
